of course, being in a cult and the shunning that comes from leaving it is invalidating.. but how many times have we heard "move on" or "get over it"?

that is a prime example of invalidation.. sometimes this forum, as well as others, can be a mixed bag of validation and invalidation..

Yes! Often posts on here offer invalidation instead of understanding.

I lurked here for months before signing up. I thought this site was for xjw's who mostly still believed in Jehovah. I knew there was some differences, but didn't have a clue that so many stopped believing in GOD. Serious questions about doctrine with valid concerns have been met with "No one cares" type of responses.

I do realize the experiences for most have left open gaping wounds, but healing will be harder with one's voice not being heard or validated. Sometimes it could feel like talking to one of the shody Elders in the former course of life. At the hall you weren't supposed to question or doubt. On here your questions and concerns can at times be made to seem idiotic.

Good thing most leave with a thicker skin.

towards the end of last year, the witnesses in scotland had their own assembly hall opened in the town of livingston, near edinburgh the capital.. this was achieved no doubt by blood, sweat, and tears by many over a very long period - as well as by donations of witnesses from all over scotland and its islands, not forgetting the levy per publisher imposed on all the congregations in the guise of "donations"!.

was the org grateful for the sacrifices which were made to bring a great "shout of praise" to whoever?

14:8; 17:2; 18:3] that could be given even greater attention to today, more so than when i wrote about it back then.

Rooming request

we received a phone call from the summer convention rooming department representative.

he requested that our complimentary room payment for our three day stay be paid at the rooming dept.

and not to the hotel.

If it's complimentary then it was free. That is so shady of them to charge you for something that they received based on the bookings of other witnesses.

It would be a deposit they may have paid to secure so many rooms at a discounted rate, but you would pay the hotel directly still. They should receive their deposit back once all the rooms have been paid for. Which most often wouldn't occur until that actual assembly had come and gone.

For those who feel that their life has been stolen

you maintained a level of personal decency and integrity that you almost certainly would not have had if you had chosen another direction.. sure, you would have had some very "colorful" friends and experiences if you had gone another way, but you still chose the more "edgy" people in the congregation as your friends and you still enjoyed yourself, even if there were a lot of phony constraints.. you looked for ways to be of value to others.

don't stop doing that!.

I can totally relate to your thought. In my quest to be the person the society perceived as a spiritual christian I wasn't always the kindest person. There was a limit to my kindest. I sought to have the quietest well behaved children. I preached that they were imperfect, but required perfection from them and others every day. I constantly made them feel like they were bad people if they made a mistake. Their lives were just filled with days of judgement and misery. I was daily, teaching them that they weren't to be trusted as I showed them that I had very little trust in them.

I felt condemened all the time and therefore criticised them most often. Just as I felt that nothing I could do was good enough; I made them feel the same way.

I, too, had high educational goals and was a very good public speaker. I was always nominated for offices and positions, but once I achieved them I would just feel bad all the time; having been voted in. I guess that was a part of the cognitive dissonance rearing it's ugly head.

I do believe that adhereing to GOD'S commandments is a good way of life, but I gave up much by holding myself and others to a higher standard that not even GOD and Jesus Christ required of me or them.

Now I am free. We are free. My children now speak of being happy and see a beautiful difference in me. So, Yes, I can completely understand what you mean by the darkside.

they key to free yourself from the organization is having mental clarity of what is happening in relation to the watchtower, inside and out.

their basic concept is that they are god's sole organization on earth.

there really is no basis for anyone to make that statement.

Yes, you are taught to relenquish your control over yourself to the WTBT$ starting with your very first bible study. At the point where you figure out they are not phasing you...You become a liability.

They seek a domineering control which can lead to deeper bible study that will push you either way with your new acquired knowledge.

Anyone recall a time when your congregation came to the aid of a Brother or sister in need??

i'm not talking about a individual, but a congregation as a whole.. i'm talking about a brother or sister that really hit hard times.. have there ever been an occasion where the brothers (elders).

decided to dip into the kh funds and help one in need????.
